Star-Quad cables are the most advanced microphone cables available today including “double Reussen shielding” and quadruple construction (4 conductors) for a truly professional cable.

“Star-Quad” concept is known and recommended when RF rejection is the most important factor and when very long cable lengths are required. Thanks to the use of 2 conductors for the weak signal and 2 for the strong signal, the signal loss is reduced by 50% and thanks to the offset of the incoming RF signal by the way the 4 conductors are twisted, the RF rejection is higher than 130dB (25 kHz).

The Moonwires Alioth XLR cable is a balanced “Star-Quad” type audio cable including 5 shields!

Each of the 4 conductors is protected by a 100% overlapping copper wire shielding (Reussen shielding) plus a conductive aluminum-coated polyester separating layer. The conductors are twisted in a star pattern and held in place by another layer of aluminum followed by the double Reussen shielding. A mineral shielding with Shungite powder completes the construction of this uncompromising cable.

For our XLR cables, we apply the same recipes that make our power cables successful by using of Teflon PTFE dielectrics and high quality shields such as Mumetal or copper. And of course we apply a mineral shielding with Shungite powder. The outer sheaths are made of basalt.

What is double Reussen shielding?
The best way to shield balanced audio cables against RF interference, hum pickup, and crosstalk is by surrounding the audio conductors with two separate spiral shields wound in opposite directions so that the layers strands are at 90 degree angles to one another. Winding the shields in opposite directions reduces inductive effects on long cable runs and improves cable flexibility.
